Unique Sports Counselling is the brainchild of its founder and principal Michael Bennett. Michael has launched Unique Sports Counselling, at least in part, in response to the highs and lows he experienced in his own professional football career. An England U19 international whilst at Charlton, he suffered a career threatening knee injury at 20 when on the brink of U21 selection. A cortisone injection prevented enforced retirement but in the absence of something like Unique Sports Counselling Michael admits much of his professional career that took in Wimbledon, Brentford, Brighton, Millwall and Cardiff was played at 75% of his true ability for fear that the next tackle would be his last.
Michael’s vision for Unique Sports Counselling really developed during the final playing stint of his career at non-league Canvey Island. Here, Michael made the transition from player to coach/counselor. Hundreds of coaching and counseling hours saw him gain his UEFA B coaching qualification and his Diploma in person centered counseling thus paving the way for what is now Unique Sports Counselling.
Michael’s conviction is that Unique Sports Counseling will fill a current void in the world of professional sport thereby enabling sportsmen and women to maximize their potential and him to give back to the industry he owes so much.
